"Let us go somewhere else ... " Mark 1.38
Read Mark 1.32-38:
Numerous events in the life of Jesus can be understood by realizing that he was a man of vision. Hew saw beyond the event into the plan and will of God. One such event is found in Mark 1.32-38. One day the disciples of Jesus came to a place where they wished to stay. Their Lord had healed many there in Capernaum. And now the disciples, having interrupted Jesus' early morning time, told him, "Everyone is looking for you."
What could be better? Here were people with needs. They loved Jesus. They sought him out. They listened to him. Surely the Kingdom was about to be established right there in Capernaum. (Have you ever had a Capernaum where all was well?)
Ignoring the tempting voice that urged him to stay in Capernaum, Jesus responded, "Let us go somewhere else to the towns nearby, in order that I may preach there also; for that is what I came out for" (March 1.38).
The choice confronts us all. It confronted the children of Israel in Egypt - to move out or to stay. The choice confronted the disciples on the Mount of Transfiguration - either to erect tents or to go back to the people.
Do you stay where you are or go on? Vision kept Jesus from staying where he was. Vision enabled him to see beyond the security of immediate success - to other towns, to a cross, to an open tomb - and on to a world in need. You are not yet what you are intended to be; don't stay, go on.
