Preparing an Appropriate Rite of Remembrance
Sometimes ministers hear it said, “We’ve never had to plan a funeral service before, and we don’t know where to begin.” First Baptist Church is developing a policy and guide intended to serve as a first step in such planning. Within it our members and their families will find answers to many questions that are obvious, and to others that are not. These guidelines will provide you help with things to consider on the occasion of a loss, such as deciding to have a funeral service, where to conduct the service, when to schedule the service, how to plan a service, and disposition of the body. You will also find a checklist of church responsibilities and other services, a funeral service guide, examples of responsive readings of scripture, prayer, and professions of faith, suggested hymns, and funeral planning forms.
