An Invitation to Prayer by Laura Lomax, Deacon Chair
Who invites us to prayer? The very God who is as close as our closest friend or loved one, yet Who is the King of the universe. This close communion often eludes us, and we then miss out on the peace, the power, and the transformative presence of God in our days. The deacons of First Baptist invite you to take part in the study of Richard Foster’s book, Prayer: Finding the Heart’s True Home. Foster’s book is inspiring, encouraging, personal, deep, and will surely spur your heart and mind toward a richer experience of prayer. Our “One Church, One Book” study will take place during the five Sundays in March in Sunday School classes. You may recall that we studied Foster’s most famous book, Celebration of Discipline , a few years ago.
Our deacon subcommittee is very excited about this opportunity for our church to explore the topic of prayer more deeply. The book study will follow a four sermon series on prayer by Reverend Sherouse in February. And we are wondering, how would our lives be different, how might our church grow in grace and wisdom, and how might we accomplish more for the Kingdom of God if together, we became a more praying church?
