9:00 am - 1:00 pm
Bessemer Elementary School, 918 Huffine Mill Road, Greensboro, NC, 27405

Aim of Steps to Success -
Recognizing that beginning school can be a significant transition and challenge, the aims of this camp are to provide:

  • Young children with an experience and necessary skills to be successful in the beginning of their academic career
  • Adequate nutrition to support physical and mental development
  • An environment for building healthy and collaborative relationships
  • The opportunity to develop and promote a community relationship between entering Kindergarten children, their families, the Bessemer Elementary staff and members of First Baptist Church Greensboro.

Qualifications -

  • Desire to partner with young children as they take "Steps toward Success"
  • Willingness to be role models in word, attitude and actions
  • Able to committ to a minimum of 1 week with the camp to assure consistency with the children
  • Youth Volunteers working with children must be at least 14 years old and in High School

Dress Code -

Comfortable and casual "summer" attire is appropriate.  As role models, our attire should mirror school expectations, therefore spaghetti strap tops or short-shorts are not acceptable.  Also, any words or pictures on clothing should be tasteful and reflect our Christian values.

Register as a Guilford County School (GCS) Volunteer -

All volunteers age 16 and older will need to register as a GCS volunteer.  Follow these quick and easy steps to register . . .

Note: GCS Board of Education policy requires volunteers to register and complete a background check to ensure the safety of children because many volunteer roles involve unsupervised one-on-one contact with children.  There is no fee to register.
