First
Baptist Church offers three Divorce Programs to the
Triad Community:
Divorce Recovery Program
The 9-session Divorce Recovery Program offered at First
Baptist Church is designed for adults who are coping
with divorce or separation. The seminar meets for nine
weeks beginning in January, April and October.
Participants
have wide-ranging religious, socio-economic, educational,
and ethnic backgrounds. The program focuses on situations
or problems common to most divorced people, and seeks
to explore and develop positive coping skills to enable
participants to grow through divorce. Each session of
the seminar is divided into two parts. The first part
is in a large group setting with a video presentation
or speaker. In the second part, the seminar participants
divide into smaller groups, each with a facilitator,
to discuss the presentation. Weekly hand-outs and a
companion book, Growing Through Divorce, by Jim Smoke,
round out the program.
Rebuilding Program
Divorce Rebuilding is designed as a step-by-step guide
to getting oneself in a position to enjoy the life that
comes after divorce. The seminar meets for 12-14 weeks
and follows the Divorce Recovery Program. Each session
of the seminar is based on a Chapter in Dr. Bruce Fisher
and Dr. Robert Alberti's book, Rebuilding - When Your
Relationship Ends. The program is discussion.
Reconnecting Program
Divorce Reconnecting is the third and final session
offered in our life-after-divorce series. You must complete
Divorce Recovery and Rebuilding before attending this
class. Reconnecting is designed for those persons who
are ready to consider another personal relationship.
Each session of the seminar includes a video presentation
as well as group discussion. The seminar meets for eight
weeks and is scheduled when there are ten or more participants
signed-up to attend. The program is based on the book,
Finding the Love of Your Life, by Dr. Neil Clark Warren.
Cost for each session:
$25 which includes all materials (Limited scholarship
funds are available.)
